MSI Gaming GS63 comprehensive review

We are going to thoroughly analyze the MSI GS63, a thin and lightweight gaming laptop that offers a great combination of power, portability and affordability. It is an excellent option for gamers who don't want to compromise on performance or battery life when gaming on the go. This laptop is equipped with an Intel Core i7 processor, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card, 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD. The 15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS display with a 144Hz refresh rate and 7ms response time make this laptop a great choice for VR gaming. It also features a SteelSeries RGB keyboard for customizability. We will be reviewing this laptop across all relevant criteria.

MSI GAMING GS63: PERFORMANCE AND POWER

The MSI GS63 has been a long-awaited update since the previous version with the Geforce GTX 1060 was released, now featuring a full-powered 10-series GPU and the current Intel 8th Gen Coffee Lake processor. Its gaming capabilities are still a given, but it has also become a strong contender in other demanding tasks. As far as performance goes, this laptop excels in both its CPU and GPU categories, although some configurations could limit its usage for activities such as video editing and professional software development. If you're thinking of getting a laptop for gaming, the MSI GS63 is a great option. It's lightweight, fast and reliable, but its price tag and upgradability could be considered as drawbacks.

The MSI GS63 is one of the most impressive laptops we've tried this year, due to its Intel Core i7-8750H processor and 16GB of RAM. It has an exceptional display, decent battery life and enough ports for your needs. Despite its 15-inch size, it weighs only 2.3 kg, making it one of the lightest gaming laptops available. It's not the most lightweight or the most affordable, but it provides a perfect combination of size and power that is hard to beat. It may not be the best in any one category, but it offers good gaming performance, long battery life, and a powerful Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q GPU for its price.

MSI GS63 SPECS REVIEW

The 15.6-inch display of the laptop offers a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and an anti-glare finish for comfortable viewing. If you are willing to spend some extra money, you can upgrade to the 4K UHD resolution of 3840 x 2160. The 15-inch screen is still beautiful and luminous, providing great viewing angles and color reproduction.

The laptop offers two USB Type-C ports, two USB 3.1 Gen2 ports, one HDMI port and one Thunderbolt 3 port which also supports DisplayPort and can charge the laptop up to 65W. The keyboard has a good key travel and the trackpad works well, though it takes up space on the right edge of the palm rest due to its size.

The battery life of the laptop isn't particularly impressive in comparison to others in its category, giving around four hours with regular use. However, this is a result of MSI's reluctance to upgrade their laptop batteries. Therefore, it is not advisable to use the laptop for gaming when it is not connected to a power source. Additionally, there is a finger-print sensor incorporated into the power button to ensure the data remains secure as the machine runs on Windows 10 Home Edition.

The MSI GS63 features a visually appealing design, with brushed aluminium on the lid and keyboard deck, as well as aluminum heat fins on the bottom cover to prevent overheating. The slim bezel around the display measures just 0.5 inches on either side, making it feel smaller than it is (weighing 4.1 pounds and measuring 16 x 11 inches). The 15-inch display has a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and provides bright, vivid, and crisp visuals, making it ideal for most users; however, professionals may want something with a higher resolution if they intend to do a lot of photo or video editing on the laptop. The IPS panel is the best of its kind within this price range.

The MSI GS63 8RE-028US is a great piece of equipment, boasting an Intel Core i7-8750H processor, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q graphics card and 16GB RAM, and still being relevant in 2022. You can purchase the base model for $1,499, which includes a full HD display and Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti graphics, or you can buy the $1,699 version which has a 4K display with HDR support, Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM, and the same GPU as the base model. I tested the $1,699 version and it was great for gaming on the go. A potential alternative is the GS63VR 7RF Stealth Pro Edition, which adds an active cooling system for more efficient gaming with battery power.
