It's fine to take a break from social media if you're feeling overwhelmed. You have two options: disable the Instagram app and go offline for a bit, or remove your Instagram account. However, this is not great for everybody; Instagram addiction is a disease, and you will most likely return to it. You can also erase your Instagram account to get rid of it for good.
Here's how to suspend or delete an Instagram account if you're trying to break free from your Instagram addiction and want to disable it permanent or temporary.
To disable or delete an Instagram account, follow the procedures below:
- From a computer, go to instagram.com and log into your Instagram account. (From a mobile device, you can't disable your Instagram account.)
- In the upper right corner, click your profile image, then 'Settings.'
- Scroll to the bottom of the 'Edit Profile' box to find 'Temporarily disable my account.'
- You'll be taken to the next screen after clicking the 'Temporarily disable my account' option.
- Choose a reason for temporarily disabling your account, input your password, and click the 'Temporarily Disable Account' button. Select the reason for your account's suspension on the next screen, then enter your password. After that, click the 'Temporarily Disable Account' button.
- Open this link first if you want to erase your Instagram account.
- Select a reason to delete your Instagram account and click ‘Delete’ button to proceed.
- Before you delete your Instagram account, the 'Delete your account' page from the social media giant will ask you why you want to delete it. Instagram will provide solutions once you select a reason. Select nothing and enter your password if you've made up your mind. Then, to complete the process, scroll down and click the Delete option.
- After selecting account deletion, your account will be placed on a 30-day waiting list to be erased from Instagram. If you change your mind before the deletion date, you can log in again with the same username and password. Otherwise, Instagram will erase your account permanently.
